How does this happen? They've been writing the same song for the past 20 years.
I've actually worked out a formula for writing a hit Bon Jovi song that I will now share with the world:

"Rainy night and we worked all day
We both got jobs 'cause there's bills to pay
We got something they can't take away
Our love, our lives"
"Ohhh, if there's one thing I hang onto,Second Verse = Very similar to the first verse - likely a continuation of the story of lost love and/or relationship hardships. It's okay to use the exact same words as mentioned in the first verse - but maybe switch them around a bit.
That gets me through the night.
I ain't gonna do what I don't want to,
I'm gonna live my life.
Shining like a diamond, rolling with the dice,
Standing on the ledge, I show the wind how to fly.
When the world gets in my face,
I say, Have A Nice Day.
Have A Nice Day."
"Tommy's got his six string in hockFinal Chorus = Reiteration of first chorus - maybe a bit louder and with more feeling. Always end with a bang - or at least mention the name of the song again.
Now he's holding in what he used
To make it talk - so tough, it's tough
Gina dreams of running away
When she cries in the night
Tommy whispers baby it's okay, someday"
"Until I'm six feet underUsing this formula will result in a "mediocre at best" rock anthem that will likely top the charts. If the formula is used successfully by any readers, I will expect a small percentage of total album sales, as well as a co-writing credit on all songs for which the formula was used.
I don't need a bed
Gonna live while I'm alive
I'll sleep when I'm dead
Till they roll me over
And lay my bones to rest
Gonna live while I'm alive
I'll sleep when I'm dead "

Har, Har, Har
Why don't you try out your "formula" and see if within 25 years you can make millions of dollars, accumulate awards that you don't have enough wall space for, inspire not just 1 but 2 generations of people, tour the world selling out stadiums and then still have enough time and energy to "give back" to your community.
You forgot to include something in your formula: TALENT. Probably something you have none of, which is why you do what you do and Bon Jovi does what they do.
Something to ponder.

Actually, Bon Jovi's latest album there was a few songs written by fellow Maritimer, Gordie Sampson.

Travelling Wilbury's were top of the charts here the other week. I thought I'd stepped back into 1989.
