In reference to my car being stolen this past summer, i received the following letter in the mail this week:

To whom it may concern.... I'm writing this letter to apologize for the theft of your vehicle, and the damage caused to it. I am currently being punished and am paying for the damages caused to the vehicles. i didn't exactly think about my actions and how it would effect those people.... But when i think about it now, I see the stress i've caused you.

The 15 year old who stole your car in July.
[Name withheld because i could probably be sued for naming him]

Yeah. So, $2700 in damages later, the kid has a curfew for a few months, and i get a letter of apology.

Seems completely fair to me.
