Tuesday July 26th, a day like any other. I woke up around 8:30am, showered, had a bowl of Shreddies, packed up my laptop and headed out the door for work. As i was locking my apartment door, i glanced out the laundry room window to the parking lot.
Dude, Where's My Car?
Normally when i look out the laundry room window, i can see my car parked in its usual spot right beside the building. For some reason, i couldn't see it on this morning. "That's strange" i thought. So i took a step closer to the window. Still no car. At this point, i go back into my apartment, and step out onto my back deck to see that yes, my car is gone.
Panic mode. Did i park is somewhere else? Did i leave it at work? Did i lend it to someone? Do i even own a car? The last thing to enter my mind is that someone actually stole my car from its parking space, not even 10 feet away from my apartment.
But it's true, someone has stolen my car. I call the police, and they are there within 20 minutes. The officer asks me some questions and tells me that they will add the car to a national registry of stolen vehicles, and will "keep and eye out for it". That's it?That's all they can do? I was expecting APB's and detectives and fingerprint dusters, and all i get is "We'll keep an eye out for it. Stolen vehicles usually show up within 24 hours on the Island". They'll keep an eye out for it. Great.
Less than 24 hours later, i get a call from the RCMP. My car was found in a ditch in Fort Augustus, and they have charged a 15 year old with possession of stolen property. 15 years old! Wow. I call my insurance people, and they assure me they will take care of things.
Well, it's been two weeks since they found my car, and I'm still waiting to hear any details from my insurance people. I was away on holidays last week, and was expecting things to be "taken care of" by the time of my return. So much for that. I called them yesterday, and they still haven't even looked at my car! I gave the lady an earful, and she apologized and hooked me up with a rental vehicle for the time being. Unfortunately, the rental place was all out of cars, so I'm driving a huge Chevy half tonne truck. Yeeeehaaaa.
What fun this has been. Never in a million years would i have imagined that my car would be stolen from me. Especially on little old PEI. Especially in the suburb of Sherwood. I guess the world really is going to Hell in a hand-basket.
I blame televsion and violent video games.... and the "Fixed Link".

Oh Dennis - what griefs we share . . .
My wife Michelle's car was stolen from our driveway July 29th here in Newmarket.
We learned that it was stolen when the police called to tell us they'd found it four blocks away . . .
On Fire . . .
Totally Torched . . .
Michelle had filled the gas tank that day . . .
It was a 93 Sundance, so there was no insurance for fire/theft.
The police have been just as helpful here - after that first call, we've heard nothing . . . except that we needed to get a release form so that we could go to the pound and pay $130 for towing . . . no joke.
Any donantions for a replacement would be gladly welcome :-)
We'd Accept donations for Student Loan Debt, or just general kind help . . . though we can't offer, like, receipts or anything . . .
I'll write you soon -
Blessings - Bob

yeah well my chevy conversion van was stolen last night or this morning and I haven't heard shit since I reported it a couple hours ago. They're "looking" for it I suppose. WTF? Thiefs suck! I suppose my "cheap" liability insurance won't cover it if it's a loss. And, what I'm wondering, if someone wrecks it and causes some kind of damage to someone or something, am I responsible? This is America, I probably am... Geeesshh, what a Fucking World!
